Small containers:
the missing link in the collections chain
To make collections easier when the volumes of tyres do not require the use of a skip, while also significantly decreasing manual collections and the associated hardship, the sector is now equipped with small containers.
The first 50 units have been delivered to collectors in the sector.
The eAZyBox system is made in France and is the small container that has been retained by Aliapur. With a volume of 6 m3, it makes it possible to store 130 passenger vehicle tyres.
In 2019, 160,000 collection operations were needed to collect 47 million tyres from car industry professionals. Once the number of tyres needing to be collected from one establishment reaches 500 passenger vehicle tyres per month, the collection must be mechanised and a specific skip installed. Last year, 27 million tyres benefited from this mechanised collection system. But that also means that the other 20 million tyres were collected manually.
The volumes of the tyres to be collected have increased steadily in recent years. Given this growth, and taking into account the attention that must be paid to the movements and positions adopted by collection operators, last autumn Aliapur launched a small container project reserved for passenger vehicle tyres. There were two main aims: to take a further step towards optimisation of collection rounds, but also to significantly decrease the number of manual collections and their associated hardship. Small containers are thus the missing link in Aliapur’s collection network.
Up to 120 passenger vehicle tyres
After conclusive tests, it is the sturdy yet light prototype by the French company AZ-Métal that has been retained. Known as the eAZyBox, this container is painted in Aliapur’s colours, and was designed and built in Brittany. It is small enough to not take up too much space in small garages, yet big enough to make it possible to store up to 120 passenger vehicle tyres. eAZyBox is watertight, resistant to extreme weather, and has a locking system. The opening in its structure has been designed to make it easy to deposit tyres, and there is a means of visually verifying how full the container is.
While the principle of the small container has been officially integrated into the call for tender for the 2021-2024 collections contracts, Aliapur has already placed its first order for 50 eAZyBoxes, which are put into place in certain municipal landfill sites by the end of 2020.
